Touristic Center and discovering Valcea
August 30, 2022Wandering around Capela Hill
August 30, 2022In recent years, in many parts of the world, an intensive development of tourism based on the values of geoheritage has been observed. Their international importance increased significantly after the approval of the UNESCO Global Geopark concept in 2015. At that time, Geoparks can therefore be treated as functional areas—spatial structures consisting of functionally related areas with uniform development goals.
Consistently, Romania, is known for its specific character as a region wholly encircled by mountains, mainly palaeontological geosites from which dinosaur bones of several species, dinosaur eggs and hatchlings, were unearthed along with numerous other taxa representative of all the major vertebrate groups: fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.
In this manner, Râmnicu Vâlcea is engulfing 2 main national parks; Cozia and Buila – Vanturarita. Buila, is a candidate for new UNESCO Geopark after Hațeg and Buzău. As volunteers interested by this topic, we participated in a conference by a presentation aimed to show the transition of National Geoparks to UNESCO Geoparks based on the Geoheritage protection and Sustainable Development of local society.
