On September 18, we participated together with Râmnicu Vâlcea’s local citizens in a huge ‘clean–up’ activity organised by Zambete Colorate Association, under the umbrella of social mouvement “Let’s Do It, România!”. We were extremely glad about taking part in this event. Our aim was to remove the highest amount of litter from local waterways, wetlands and parks. In fact, keeping our streets, trails, parks, and green areas clean and free of trash gives us back the power to make positive changes.
The activity was really well organised as we divided ourselves into different groups in order to be as efficient as possible. Our group of volunteers worked in the area around Lake Ostroveni and were able to fill up more than a dozen of bags with litter in not more than an hour.
As volunteers, getting involved in a ‘clean–up’ activity can be a great way to raise awareness in your area, and can lay the groundwork for future waste-reducing efforts. A ‘clean–up’ can also bring about a sense of community and responsibility to keep our homes and common areas safe and clean.
